In a statement released on Monday, the Association of Cameroonian International Civil Servants (AFIC) raised alarm over the tense political climate following Cameroon’s presidential election. The organization, which brings together Cameroonian professionals serving in various international institutions, is calling for urgent and coordinated action from global partners to safeguard peace and stability in the country.
“Given its experience in preventing and managing post-election armed conflicts and the proliferation of tension hotspots worldwide, AFIC warns against an escalation with incalculable consequences,” the statement said. The association called on the United Nations, the African Union, CEMAC, and democratic world powers to “raise their voices strongly and in unity.”
AFIC is demanding an immediate end to what it describes as ongoing repression targeting opposition figures, activists, and members of civil society. It also insists that the popular will expressed at the polls be respected and that election results be certified by competent international organizations before being officially proclaimed by Cameroon’s Constitutional Council.
AFIC’s statement comes amid widespread controversy surrounding the 2025 presidential election, marred by allegations of large-scale electoral fraud. Civil society groups have reported arbitrary arrests and violent crackdowns in several cities across the country. The association’s call adds to growing domestic and international appeals for mediation to prevent Cameroon from sliding into a major political crisis.
