Theology professor Mac Anthony Akuhmbom narrowly escaped death after he was brutally attacked on Tuesday at the entrance to his residence in Douala. According to initial accounts, he recalls only a heavy blow to the head before losing consciousness. His attackers reportedly fled, believing he was dead.
He was quickly rushed to the hospital, where he later regained consciousness while receiving treatment. He sustained significant head injuries, but medical staff now consider his condition stable.
Although the exact motive remains unclear, local sources suggest the attack may be linked to his public support for Issa Tchiroma, a well-known political figure in Cameroon. Authorities are expected to open an investigation to identify the assailants and clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident. Mac Anthony Akuhmbom is a respected figure in academic and religious circles. His public engagement, including political positions, has often drawn attention. Attacks on prominent or outspoken individuals remain a recurrent concern in several urban areas across Cameroon.
