Muna Ekane, the eldest son of the late political figure Georges Anicet Théodore Ekane, has strongly denounced remarks made by Minister Delegate for Justice Jean de Dieu Momo. Speaking in an exclusive interview, he accused the minister of fabricating a new narrative surrounding his father’s death and of illegally leaking his medical file to the public.
According to Muna Ekane, the minister’s declarations are part of a coordinated effort to conceal what he describes as a politically motivated assassination. He condemns what he calls an orchestrated attempt to distort medical facts in order to protect state institutions from responsibility in the death of his father, who died in detention.
He insists that the family was neither informed nor consulted before the medical file was released, and that the autopsy was imposed without their consent. Muna Ekane states that these actions constitute a violation of both medical ethics and Cameroonian law.
The son of the deceased maintains that the government is attempting to minimize the conditions of detention that led to the deterioration of Anicet Ekane’s health. He argues that the minister’s public intervention is intended to manipulate public opinion and to absolve authorities of any wrongdoing in a case that continues to draw national and international scrutiny.
Georges Anicet Théodore Ekane, a prominent opposition figure and long-time activist for political reform, died in custody where he had been held since June 2025. His death has provoked widespread reactions across Cameroon and abroad. Minister Jean de Dieu Momo has publicly defended the government’s actions and claimed that the opposition’s accusations are politically motivated, prompting a sharp response from the Ekane family.
