Anger does not fade in the city of Buea. On Tuesday, residents who had been without electricity for about three months blocked traffic on a strategic road, crippling traffic and causing major slowdowns.
The protesters denounce a situation that has become unsustainable, marked by the cessation of many economic activities, the deterioration of living conditions and the lack of concrete responses from the authorities and the energy supplier.
According to witnesses on the spot, barricades were erected using tires and tree trunks, while law enforcement forces try to contain the situation. No official information has yet been provided on any intervention or timetable for the restoration of electricity.
Buea, the regional capital of southwestern Cameroon, has been facing recurrent disruptions in electricity supply for several months. These prolonged cuts are part of a broader context of difficulties in accessing basic services in a region already weakened by the security and socio-economic crisis.
