Authorities in Fairfax County reported the arrest of a woman suspected of killing her 79-year-old mother in a family residence. According to preliminary information released by local police, emergency services were alerted following a call reporting a serious incident at the home. Responders arrived to find the victim suffering from severe stab wounds. She did not survive despite medical intervention.
The suspect, who was apprehended at the scene, was taken into custody and later transferred to a detention facility. A criminal investigation is under way to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the attack and to establish a motive.
Fairfax County, located in northern Virginia and part of the Washington metropolitan area, is one of the most populous jurisdictions in the region.
