Residents of Bomaka, a neighborhood in the city of Buea, blocked the road linking Buea to Kumba on Monday to denounce the lack of electricity for approximately one year and six months. Barricades were erected, bringing traffic to a standstill along this key transport corridor.

The protesters describe the situation as unbearable and accuse the authorities of failing to act despite repeated complaints. They insist that the road will remain blocked until electricity is fully restored to Bomaka. The protest is ongoing, with tensions remaining high as motorists are forced to turn back or seek alternative routes.

Buea, the capital of Cameroon’s South-West region, has been repeatedly affected by prolonged power outages, compounded by infrastructure challenges and the ongoing sociopolitical crisis in the country’s Anglophone regions. These recurring disruptions have fueled public anger, with residents criticizing the government’s inability to provide basic services after several decades of President Paul Biya’s rule.
