Speaking to Panorama Papers on Thursday, Muna Ekane directly called out Minister Jean de Dieu Momo. The Justice Delegate, who referred to himself as a “comrade in struggle” of Anicet Ekane, recently made public parts of the late leader’s medical file—without the family’s authorization.
Muna Ekane denounced what he described as “false and illegal” communication, stressing that the disclosure of a deceased detainee’s medical information is not only inappropriate but also a violation of confidentiality standards. He also questioned the minister’s assertion that one of Anicet Ekane’s sons had visited him in detention.
“Could you please provide the identity of this son unknown to the family, so he may be included in the funeral arrangements?” he asked, openly challenging the truthfulness of the minister’s claim and demanding immediate clarification.
During the interview, Muna Ekane also addressed the minister with a pointed question: “Will you be attending the funeral? I believe you can easily imagine my opinion on that…” A remark that underscored his indignation at what he views as manipulation and a deep disrespect for his father’s memory.
Georges Théodore Anicet Ekane, a major figure of the nationalist movement, died in detention under circumstances that continue to fuel allegations of political assassination. His family, political comrades, and several civil society organizations denounce inhumane detention conditions and what they describe as targeted political repression. The statements made by Jean de Dieu Momo have further intensified public controversy, reinforcing calls for transparency regarding the true circumstances of the Manidem leader’s death.
