António Guterres condemned the excessive use of force against civilians and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed or injured during the unrest. He called on all political actors, security forces, and citizens to remain calm, act responsibly, and uphold human dignity, warning against hate speech and divisive rhetoric.
The Secretary-General stressed the urgent need to protect fundamental rights, safeguard human life, and ensure the security of every citizen, regardless of political affiliation. He also demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the violence to hold perpetrators accountable.
Finally, Guterres urged an inclusive and sincere national dialogue as the only path to preserve Cameroon’s unity, restore public trust, and foster lasting peace. The United Nations reaffirmed its full commitment to supporting peace, justice, and human development in Cameroon alongside all those working for reconciliation and hope.
